SPE Journal Publication – “Quantitative Analysis of Hydraulic Fracturing Test Site 2 Completion Designs Using Crosswell Strain Measurement”

  • Publication Number: SPE-218417
  • Title: Quantitative Analysis of Hydraulic Fracturing Test Site 2 Completion Designs Using Crosswell Strain Measurement
  • Date: May 2024

IFDATA is excited to announce that our manuscript, recognized as a "Best of Paper" at URTeC 2023, has been published in the May issue of SPE Journal.

In our study, we introduce a novel approach using Low-Frequency Distributed Acoustic Sensing (LF-DAS) based cross-well strain measurements for the quantitative evaluation of completion design efficiency. Traditionally, cross-well strain analysis has been qualitative, focusing on the timing and location of fracture hits. Our work addresses this limitation by providing a robust quantitative methodology, leveraging the full potential of cross-well strain data for a more comprehensive analysis.

This advancement not only demonstrates the potential of LF-DAS for quantitative interpretation but also significantly broadens its application in hydraulic fracturing diagnostics.

This achievement is a result of excellent collaboration between IFDATA, Texas A&M University, and the Colorado School of Mines. Special thanks to the authors Joseph Mjehovich (IFDATA), Aishwarya Srinivasan (TAMU), Wen Wang (IFDATA), Dr. Kan Wu (TAMU), and Dr. Ge Jin (CSM).
